Global Projects

We take action locally and globally

Through Rotary people from all continents and cultures come together to exchange ideas, form friendships and professional connections.

We make a difference in backyards and around the world.  Each day, our members pour their passion, integrity, and intelligence into projects that have a lasting impact.

Rotarians persevere until we deliver.  For more than 110 years we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents.  We champion peace, fight illiteracy, poverty, promote clean water and sanitation, and fight disease.

 Interplast

Contact

Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.

We do this in partnership with local organisations, including hospitals, universities and local NGOs. Our mission is to ‘repair bodies and rebuild lives’ and we do this through providing surgical services to those who could not otherwise afford or access these, and by building the capacity of local medical systems through our training and mentoring programs.

Contact

ShelterBox is a cutting-edge charity that hand-delivers emergency shelter for families devastated by natural disaster and conflict. ShelterBox works with disaster-hit families around the world, offering emergency shelter and other essential items to support them in rebuilding their lives.

ShelterBox began in 2000 as a Rotary Club millennium project. With the support of Rotary

members and clubs around the world, ShelterBox has grown to become an internationally recognised, independent disaster relief organisation.

ShelterBox is a project partner with Rotary International.

Since2012, ShelterBox and Rotary have been official Project Partners in disaster relief. By working together with Rotary, ShelterBox is able to collaborate and combine resources to ensure that we can support more communities in desperate need of shelter after disaster.  Each year, Rotary helps us to go further, support more people and access areas that would otherwise be impossible to reach.

Rotarians and Rotary groups across the world support us in a variety of ways, from raising funds and awareness to providing support on the ground during our response to a disaster. This enables us to work more effectively and reach more communities around the world.

Since 2000, ShelterBox has assisted 2 million+ people across 98 different countries. In 2020, despite COVID-19, we helped over 40,000 families. From Cameroon and Vanuatu, to the Philippines, Syria and Honduras; our reach is truly global.

Our aid inventory includes different types of tents to suit a range of conditions, shelter kits and tarpaulins to repair damaged homes and essential items like water filters and solar lights. Our aspiration is that no family goes without shelter following disasters. You can help us achieve this aim.

 End Trachoma 2020

Contact:

www.endtrachoma2020.org.au

Trachoma is the world’s leading cause of infectious blindness. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and creates swelling under the inner eyelid. Repeated episodes of infection lead to scarring. The scars cause eyelashes to turn inward and scratch the eye, producing intense pain made worse by blinking. Eventually, if left untreated, the scratched cornea becomes cloudy, and irreversible blindness follows.

Rotary’s 2017-18 International President, Ian Riseley, wants a trachoma-free Australia in 2021. That year marks Rotary’s 100th year in Australia. EndTrachoma by 2020 is an opportunity for all clubs around Australia to unite and support our least advantaged Australians.
